UOIT set for the Head of the Trent
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The UOIT Ridgebacks rowing team is ready to travel to Peterborough this Saturday for the Head of the Trent. The regatta is made up of over 50 universities and clubs competing with an estimated 1,200 athletes participating over the course of the day - making the Head of the Trent the largest single day regatta in North America.
UOIT is entering the Head of the Trent with a lot of confidence after picking up two medals at the Head of the Welland this past Saturday. The Ridgebacks also had positive results at the Western Invitational, with the women's varsity 8+ crew finishing in second place.
Crews race along the scenic Trent Canal and Otonabee River in a 5km head style race. The regatta draws competitors primarily from Ontario, Quebec, and the northern United States, with international competitors also participating.
UOIT will have a number of crews racing throughout the course of the day from the varsity and novice teams.
The Head of the Trent is regarded as one of the premier events for fall rowing in the region and competition for entries has grown increasingly more vigorous in recent years. The regatta coincides with Trent University's homecoming celebrations, and consequently provides a unique atmosphere of spectators, festivities and activities. Crews are often cheered along by revelers at the finish line and some of the more narrow portions of the course.
