UOIT Ridgebacks Land Western Ontario Hockey League Player of the Year
Oshawa (OUA) – University of Ontario Institute of Technology men’s hockey head coach Marlin Muylaert is pleased to announce the addition of standout Western Ontario Hockey League defencemen Mike Noyes, who has committed to play hockey for UOIT for 2008-09 on an athletic scholarship.
”We are thrilled to be adding Mike to our team compliment,” commented Muylaert. “Mike is a smooth skating defenceman with excellent vision, scoring prowess and playmaking ability. We will be counting on Mike right away to contribute to our power play and offense from the blueline.”
Noyes, a 6-foot-1 defender, just capped off an unbelievable season with the St. Mary’s Lincolns of the Western Ontario Hockey League. The native of Lucan, Ontario won top honours in the league as he was named the Caley Cup Player of the Year. He was also named the league’s top defensemen as well as being honoured as a first team all-star.
He led all defencemen in scoring with 71 points (27 goals/44 assists) during the regular season, which was good enough for fourth in league scoring. Noyes was dominant with the man-advantage for the Lincolns going on to record 18 power play goals. In the postseason, Noyes guided the Lincolns to the Championship semi-finals.
Other highlights this year for Noyes included making an appearance in the highly regarded GOJHL Prospects game and being named January’s Western Ontario Hockey League Player of the Month. During that month, he tallied six goals and 20 points in nine games, with five of his goals coming on the power play.
After visiting the campus for a tour, Noyes was so impressed with the facilities and hockey program that he has proceeded with his application for the fall of 2008 and is eagerly waiting his acceptance.
