UOIT Women’s Hockey Weekend Recap

Women’s Hockey
Saturday – Western defeated UOIT 4-3 (SO)
Sunday – Windsor defeated UOIT 5-1

OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey  final home stand had it all; solid goaltending, shootouts, penalty shots and plenty of great goals. The only thing it was missing for a determined Ridgebacks squad was a win as UOIT went 0-1-1 to wrap up the home portion of their 2009-10 season.

Saturday’s game against Western was very exciting as a shootout was needed to break a 3-3 draw. In the shootout, it was the Mustangs edging out UOIT 2-1 to pick up the two points. In the losing effort, Nicole Pigeon ( Toronto, Ont.) scored two goals while teammate Sarah Matthews (Whitby, Ont.) had two assists.

Sunday was senior’s day at the Campus Ice Centre as the Ridgebacks honoured assistant captain Chrissy Tereshyn (Scarborough, Ont.) before the game. The Ridgebacks veteran picked up an assist in her final home game but it was not enough to lift UOIT to victory as they were defeated 5-1 by Windsor.

UOIT will wrap up their regular season next weekend on the road as they square off against Waterloo (Saturday) and Laurier (Sunday).
