UOIT drops their second straight game to Queen’s

Women’s Hockey: Queen’s defeated UOIT 5-2

KINGSTON, Ont. – Rikki Palmateer (Cobourg, Ont.) of the UOIT Ridgebacks women’s hockey team picked up a goal and an assist against Queen’s University on Sunday but it wasn’t enough for the win as the Gaels skated to a 5-2 victory.

Queen’s picked up the weekend two-game sweep as they defeated the Ridgebacks 4-3 in overtime on Saturday.

UOIT out shot Queen’s 43-36 in the game, but Gaels goaltender Mel Dodd-Moher stood on her head making 41 stops in the victory. UOIT goaltender Jessica Larabie stopped 31 Queen’s shots in the losing effort.

Freshman Jill Morillo ( Whitby, Ont.) scored the Ridgebacks second goal in the game, extending her goal scoring streak to three games. Morillo leads all OUA freshmen in goals (14) and points (21).

Kristin Smith and Morgan McHaffie scored two goals apiece for Queen’s while teammate Elizabeth Kench had three assists.

The Ridgebacks were 1-for-5 on the power play while Queen’s was 0-for-4.

UOIT will close out the home portion of the regular next weekend at the Campus Ice Centre. The Ridgebacks will host Western on Saturday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m. followed by their home finale on Sunday, February 7 against Windsor at 3:30 p.m.
