UOIT`s First Annual Rowing Banquet

• The First Annual UOIT Ridgebacks Varsity Rowing Banquet was held this past Friday March 11 at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club. The banquet was MC’ed by Christie Attwood and Allison Ng, and toasts were given by Mark Lula, Mark Henein, Jeff Bonnallie, and coach Cait Beresford to honour the athletes, coaches, alumni, and UOIT and the Ridgebacks. In the country club’s fireside room, dinner was served, followed by a raffle, and a tribute to the founding coach, Rob Millikin by coach Jenn Durward. To end the night, executive members Shannon Galea and Justin Vanden Bosch made a special presentation featuring a very musical rowing-themed ukulele tune. To listen to it, click here

Thanks to Ray Mutiger for his slide show featuring the 2010-2011 team accomplishments which played throughout the night. Many thanks to crew, coaches and friends that attended – we look forward to more crew events in the future! 

 

The 5th Annual UOIT Athletic Banquet

• The Athletic Banquet was held on Thursday March 30, 2011 at the General W. Sikorski Polish Veterans Association Hall. The rowing team showed its support by turning out in great numbers! The coaches attended as well to show their support for the UOIT Rowing Program. The banquet was a night to remember as      many of our athletes were awarded for their hard work and accomplishments  throughout the season.

Rowing Team Awards are as follows:

Men’s Rowing

• Rookie of the Year – Jeff Bonnalie
• Leadership – Justin Vanden Bosch
• MVP – Scott Wilson
• Academic Award – Karsten Kudermann (top academic in rowing)  (exchange student)

Women’s Rowing

• Rookie of the year – Angela Dares
• Coxswain of the year – Monika Mak
• Leadership – Christie Attwood
• MVP – Lauren Dares
• Rob Millikin Award – Lauren Dares *new award in memory of past coach Rob Millikin*
• Academic Award – Shannon Galea (top academic in rowing)

 Major Awards (For all varsity athletic programs) – as those applied to rowers:

• Women’s Rowing – UOIT Varsity Team of the Year
• Male Overall Scholastic Award – Ian Ngaria (top GPA out of all athletes)
• Female Freshman Athlete of the Year – Angela Dares
• Female Athlete of the Year – Shannon Galea

Shannon Galea and Jeanette Lunenborg were recognized for their achievements for the OUA Women of Influence and OUA Novice Rowing Coach of the Year
