Summer recess

Summer recess

Self Training Season from the end of April to the third week in August.

The key to physical fitness is to stay in shape with a regular exercise routine.

If it is your goal to make the Varsity and Novice Crews with intent to win, then you must come into Camp in physical condition to row. Otherwise you may never stand on the podium as a winner. It is too late to start serious training at the end of July. To be in physical condition to row, your personal training at home must start at least 16 weeks before the camp. That is mid May at the latest.

Your home training should consist of a minimum of:

o Running. 1 – 2 times a week
o Warm up - 10 minutes
o Run at least 8 minutes (approximately same time as a race time over 2000m)
o Cool down - 10 minutes
o Stretch – at least 15 minutes

If you are serious about rowing in the fall then where possible you should join your local rowing club and row competitively for that club.

*Novices, who wish to remain novice, should avoid rowing in sanctioned regattas to avoid losing their status as a novice. Go to Row Ontario or Rowing Canada Aviron for a listing of clubs near to you.
